At Sea
There was a bit of motion and vibration last night as we were moving at high speed down the coast. Karen and I did our mile around the decks, then we all headed up to the Lido for breakfast. A lovely day with a bit of high overcast and temperature in the low 20s. At 9am I went to an introduction to Pickleball class. Holland America has Pickleball courts on all of their ships. This morning they were just explaining the game and the rules, there will be opportunity to play later on. I'll keep you posted on how I like it.
I listened to a talk on some of our ports then did a bit of work in the cabin before lunch on the aft deck. I spent some time in the afternoon familiarizing myself with the ship, then Afternoon Tea. On this ship they serve you a set selection of tea sandwiches and sweets, and pour cups of tea. (you only get your own teapot if you ask for a specialty tea).
Then time to get ready for dinner, as it was a dressy night. Certainly lots of variety in what people chose to dress up in, from very casual to semi-formal. Dinner service was much smoother on this second night, and food very good. I had a duck appetizer with rack of lamb for my main and a flour-less chocolate cake for dessert. Portions are nice and small so I felt able to have multiple courses. After dinner we went to the Ocean Bar and I tried a Rotterdam Martinez with Holland America's De Lijn Gin. I'll definitely have this again! Then it was on to the theatre for the Captain's welcome and a terrific dance/technical show. Afterwards Ian and I headed to the Piano bar to listen to the music of Billy Joel. Clocks are moving forward tonight, so time for bed.
